MySpellings is designed to make spelling practice simple, child-friendly, and private. The app does not require an account, does not show third-party ads, does not use advertising or analytics trackers, and does not send children's spelling profiles, lists, or progress to a MySpellings server. Most information used by the app stays on the user's own device.
MySpellings is a spelling practice app designed for children and their families. It provides ready-made spelling content, custom spelling lists, Photo Lists, practice modes, Tricky Words, rewards, progress tracking, and support for more than one child.
In this policy, “MySpellings,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of the MySpellings app and website.
If you have any questions about this privacy policy, you can contact us at: [email protected]
This privacy policy explains how information is handled when using the MySpellings Android app, the MySpellings website, and support or other communications sent directly to us.
There is an important difference between information stored locally inside the app and information collected by us. MySpellings may store information on the user's device so the app can work, but that does not mean the information is sent to or collected by us.
MySpellings does not operate a user account system and does not collect or store children's profiles, spelling lists, or spelling progress on a MySpellings server.
The app does not ask users to provide an email address, home address, exact date of birth, telephone number, school name, precise location information, or an online username or account.
MySpellings does not use information from the app to build advertising profiles or track children across apps or websites.
To provide its spelling features, MySpellings stores app information locally on the device.
Depending on how the app is used, this may include a child's first name or nickname, grade, profile color, custom spelling lists, selected spelling words, favorites, spelling progress, stars, rewards and stickers, Tricky Words, practice history, practice statistics, saved practice-session information, accessibility preferences, language, keyboard and voice preferences, Parent Area settings, and other settings needed for the app to work.
This information is stored locally on the device. It is not uploaded to a MySpellings server, sent to us, or used by us to create a profile of the child.
Because this information remains on the device, we cannot remotely view a child's spelling lists, progress, profile, or practice history.
MySpellings allows a parent or caregiver to create separate profiles for more than one child.
A profile may contain the child's first name or nickname, grade, profile color, and that child's own spelling and practice information.
Each child can have separate custom lists, favorites, Tricky Words, progress, rewards, and practice history. These profiles are stored locally on the device and are not sent to us.
Parents and caregivers should use a first name or nickname rather than entering additional personal information that is not needed for spelling practice.
Parents, caregivers, or users can create their own spelling lists inside MySpellings. These may include words sent home by a school or words chosen by the family.
Custom spelling lists are stored locally on the device and are not collected by us. Users should avoid entering personal or sensitive information into spelling lists where it is not necessary.
MySpellings includes a Photo Lists feature. A parent or caregiver can take a photograph of a printed spelling sheet or choose an existing image from the device.
The image is used to recognize printed words so they can be reviewed and turned into an editable spelling list. Image recognition is carried out locally on the device.
The spelling-sheet image is not uploaded to us or to a MySpellings server. Recognized words can be reviewed, corrected, or removed before being added to a spelling list.
A spelling sheet may itself contain information such as a child's name, class, teacher, or school. Parents and caregivers should avoid including unnecessary parts of a document in a photograph where practical. Regardless of the contents of the image, MySpellings does not send the image to us.
MySpellings may request access to the device camera when the user chooses to take a photo for a Photo List. The app may also allow the user to choose an existing image using Android's image-selection features.
Camera or image access is used only when the user chooses to use a Photo Lists feature. MySpellings does not use the camera to monitor users, take photographs in the background, or identify a user.
MySpellings does not record a child's voice.
MySpellings uses Android text-to-speech features to read spelling words and feedback aloud.
The text that needs to be spoken is passed to the text-to-speech service selected on the device. MySpellings does not record the child's voice.
The behavior of the selected text-to-speech engine is controlled by Android and the provider of that service. Users can manage installed voices and text-to-speech settings through their device settings.
MySpellings is designed so that its main spelling practice features can work offline.
An internet connection may still be needed for services provided by Google Play, such as purchasing Premium, restoring or checking a purchase, downloading the app, or installing updates.
Child profiles, custom spelling lists, and spelling progress do not need to be uploaded to a MySpellings server in order to work.
MySpellings may offer optional paid features or a Premium upgrade through Google Play. Payments are processed by Google Play rather than directly by us.
The app may receive purchase or entitlement information from Google Play so it can unlock or restore Premium features.
We do not receive or store a user's payment card number or other payment card details. Google handles payment information according to Google's own privacy policy and terms.
MySpellings does not show third-party ads.
The app does not use behavioral advertising, advertising profiles, third-party analytics trackers, advertising identifiers for tracking, cross-app tracking, or location tracking.
We do not sell information about children or families to advertisers.
MySpellings is designed for children and families. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and the COPPA Rule provide protections relating to the online collection of personal information from children under 13 in the United States.
MySpellings has been designed to minimize the collection of children's information. The app does not require a child to create an online account and does not send child profiles, spelling lists, spelling progress, rewards, Tricky Words, practice history, or Photo List images to a MySpellings server.
Child-specific information used for spelling practice is stored locally on the device rather than being collected online by MySpellings.
Parents and caregivers remain in control of information entered into child profiles and spelling lists.
If a parent or caregiver believes that a child has sent personal information directly to us, for example in an email or support request, they can contact us at [email protected] so that we can review the request and take appropriate action.
We do not sell, rent, or trade children's profile data, spelling lists, progress, or practice history.
Those items remain on the user's device and are not available to us to share.
Information may be processed separately by services the user chooses to use, such as Google Play for purchases or the device's selected text-to-speech provider. Those services operate under their own privacy policies and terms.
MySpellings is designed to minimize privacy risks by keeping child-related app data on the user's device rather than operating a central database of children's profiles or progress.
We do not operate an online child-account database, cloud synchronization of children's progress, a server containing children's custom spelling lists, or an advertising or behavioral-profiling system.
Security of locally stored app information also depends on the security of the user's Android device. Parents and caregivers should use the device's normal screen-lock and security features where appropriate.
Local app information remains on the device while it is needed by MySpellings or until it is removed by the user.
Because this information is not held on our servers, we do not set a server-side retention period for child profiles, spelling lists, or progress.
Deleting the app, clearing the app's storage through Android settings, or resetting the device may remove locally stored MySpellings information. Moving to a different device does not automatically transfer locally stored MySpellings information.
Where more than one child profile exists, MySpellings allows a parent or caregiver to delete a child profile from the Parent Area.
Deleting a profile removes that profile and its current profile-specific app data from normal use within MySpellings.
For users who upgraded from an earlier version of MySpellings, the app may retain an older local migration copy of information on the same device to protect against data loss during an app upgrade. This migration information is not uploaded to us.
Users who want to remove all MySpellings information stored on a device can do so by clearing MySpellings app data through Android settings or by uninstalling the app.
MySpellings does not operate user accounts or store child profiles, spelling progress, or custom lists on our servers. This means there is no server-held child account for us to delete.
Users control locally stored app information on their device. Depending on what they want to remove, they can edit information within MySpellings, delete individual child profiles where that option is available, use reset options provided in the app, clear MySpellings app storage through Android settings, or uninstall MySpellings.
Clearing app storage or uninstalling the app may permanently remove locally stored profiles, spelling lists, progress, rewards, and settings. Because we do not hold a remote copy, we may not be able to restore locally deleted information.
The MySpellings website provides information about the app, support information, and this privacy policy. The website is not used to synchronize children's spelling progress, profiles, or spelling lists.
The website is intended primarily to provide information to parents, caregivers, teachers, and other adults interested in MySpellings.
If a user contacts us by email, we receive the information they choose to send. This may include their name, email address, the contents of their message, and any information or attachments they voluntarily include.
We use this information to respond to the inquiry, provide support, respond to feedback, or manage a related issue. Users should not send unnecessary personal information about a child when contacting us.
Like most websites, the infrastructure used to host the MySpellings website may process basic technical information needed to deliver and secure the website, such as an IP address, browser information, request information, and security logs.
This technical information is not used by MySpellings to create advertising profiles of children, and we do not use information from the app to identify visitors to the website.
Depending on where a person lives, applicable U.S. privacy laws may provide rights relating to personal information that we actually hold about them.
Most child information used by the MySpellings app never reaches us, so we cannot access, edit, or remotely delete that locally stored information. Parents and caregivers can instead manage local information through the app or device as described above.
If you have contacted us directly and want to ask about personal information contained in our correspondence, contact: [email protected]
MySpellings relies on a limited number of device or platform services where necessary for the app to function. These may include Google Play for app distribution, purchases and purchase restoration, Android system services, the device's text-to-speech engine, the Android camera, and Android image-selection features.
These services are provided separately from MySpellings and may have their own privacy policies and settings. MySpellings does not use these services to build advertising profiles of children.
MySpellings does not transfer locally stored child profiles, spelling lists, or progress to a MySpellings server because that information is not uploaded to us.
Third-party platform providers, website hosting providers, or email providers may process information in accordance with their own privacy policies, locations, and safeguards.
We may update this privacy policy when MySpellings changes or when privacy, legal, or platform requirements change.
When we make an update, the revised version will be published on this page and the “Last updated” date will be changed.
Where a future change materially changes how children's information is handled, we will update the policy before or when that change is introduced.
